FAQ

Straight answers before you book

The questions clients and students ask us most often. If yours isn’t here, call or email and we’ll answer it directly.

Booking and pricing

Where are you based, and how far do you travel?

We’re based in Prince George, BC and cover the Prince George area and the rest of British Columbia. Inspection, auditing and field PMI are also available across Canada and internationally. For work outside BC, email us and we’ll confirm logistics.

How does booking work?

For on-site services, a $175 booking fee holds your date and covers the work agreement. It comes off your final quote. After you book, we call or email to confirm the date and scope.

How much notice do you need?

We usually need at least 5 business days’ notice, and dates go first come, first served. If your timeline is tighter, call anyway. If we can’t make it work, we’ll tell you straight away.

What does an inspection cost?

Inspection and field services are quoted per project, with day rates, per diems and kilometres or travel depending on location and duration. Lab testing starts at $125 for the first item, and XRF courses are $425 (Level 1) and $275 (Level 2) plus GST per student in Prince George.

Inspection and NDE

Can you work remotely?

Yes, where the job allows it. Inspectors can consult remotely on a specific problem, and we review digital radiographs and film digitized to ASTM E1936-20 without travelling to site.

What certifications do your inspectors hold?

Our team includes CWB Level 2 visual inspectors, AWS Certified Welding Inspectors, API 510, 570, 577 and 1169 certified inspectors, AMPP / NACE coating inspectors, and CGSB Level 2 technicians in RT, UT, MT, PT and XRF.

What does an NDE audit involve?

We attend your project to check radiation safety practices, procedures, technician certification and film quality against code and client specifications. We report findings quickly and coach the crew through the fixes, which keeps good technicians on your job.

Do you handle confidential or defence-related work?

Yes. Our Special Projects Division performs NDE and engineering assessments for firearms, body armour, CBRN equipment and other technical items. Confidentiality terms are agreed before any item changes hands.

XRF training

Who can take the XRF Level 1 course?

Anyone who will run a handheld XRF analyzer on paid work. The 5-hour in-person course is the prerequisite for challenging the CGSB Level 1 XRF exam. Iridium Training is a Natural Resources Canada Authorized Training Organization.

Do I need Level 1 before taking Level 2?

Yes. Level 2 is a 3-hour add-on and requires a completed Level 1 course from an NRCan Authorized Training Organization. Level 2 operators can also teach the applicable XRF courses.

Can you train our team at our location?

Yes. Course prices are based on training in Prince George, BC. We can travel to your site to train a group, with travel quoted separately.

PMI and material testing

What is PMI, and will it damage my parts?

Positive material identification confirms the chemical makeup of a metal so you know the right alloy is in the right place. We use X-ray fluorescence, which is non-destructive: nothing is cut, ground or marked.

How do I send samples for alloy or precious metal testing?

Request testing through our contact form or by email. Once the initial charge for the first item is paid, we contact you within one business day to arrange drop-off or shipping. Additional items are quoted before work starts. Samples are returned at your cost or disposed of once you accept the results.

Do you offer rush testing?

Yes. Email info@iridiumindustrial.ca any time, 24 hours a day, for emergency or priority processing. Additional charges apply.

Can you test my building for lead paint?

Yes. A certified technician screens painted surfaces, soil and equipment on site with a handheld XRF analyzer, sends a written report with quick turnaround, and can label lead-bearing surfaces. Paint applied before 1980 is the most common concern.

Are there limits on where you can take an XRF analyzer?

XRF analyzers generate X-rays when energized, so some travel restrictions apply. Tell us your location and we’ll confirm what’s possible.
